Sparky and Rhonda Rucker are a captivating duo known for their vibrant mix of old-time blues, Appalachian music, spirituals, and original songs—infused with humor, history, and tall tales. Their performances feature a wide range of instruments, including bottleneck blues guitar, banjo, harmonica, piano, spoons, and bones. Sparky is a Black Appalachian Storytellers Fellow, recognized for his lifetime contributions to culture and storytelling, while Rhonda’s novel Welcome to Bombingham explores the Birmingham Children’s March during the civil rights era. Together, their acclaimed recordings and national appearances, including the Kennedy Center and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, have cemented their place as cherished voices in American roots music.
